So! Everyone's talking about Mashups? It was also a hot topic on this weeks class discussion!!
But defining a mashup in the context of the enterprise is another story.
Let’s takean example of a sophisticated enterprise mashup: connecting your SAP ERP data with your Oracle/Siebel CRM data and two sets of online third-party demographic information while maintaining single sign-on through your global LDAP server, then sharing the mashup with your management. And doing it without IT’s involvement.
it is reasonable to expect that enterprise mashups will be both a tool for Project Managers and a part of the new class of ‘Web 2.0’ applications will be involved in implementing. As a tool, enterprise mashups can greatly improve the real-time decision-making capabilities.
Mashup adoption in industries like financial services and government has already begun; some integrators are already learning what it means to deal with this new style of ‘Web 2.0 mashup application’ with requirements like ‘loosely-coupled’, ‘user-driven’, and ‘browser-based’.
Enterprise mashup solutions provide users with the ability to mash data from a data warehouse/mart as easily as any other data source. Mashups can easily be constructed from transactional ERP/CRM/SFA systems and newer interface technologies like SOA and RSS services. Mashups can make these disparate technologies easy to dynamically combine for real-time information solutions.

Laid it on a bit thick there IMO.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog post, love the example. JackBe has a few demos around mashing ERP data with Oracle CRM data while maintaining single sign on. See it at the whiteboard http://www.youtube.com/user/jackbemashups#p/u/4/tIwc6QgpyH4 or as a product demo, http://www.jackbe.com/tv/
ReplyDeleteInitially when the question was asked about Mashups replacing ERP I was clearly against it. Not because I am against mashups...it was just that I couldn't see how something that was not really a single application but potentially a bunch of different applications manage an entire firm’s business (i.e. financial systems, hr systems, procurement, etc.). However after reading the above posts I decided to look more into it on the web and was surprised on what I found. I think one of the most interesting articles was this one (http://www.ebizq.net/news/11721.html?rss) which is talking about the Enterprise Mashup Market growing to $2 billion by 2013. That sort of spurred my interest into finding more about it. My general concerns about mashups were around standards. How could you drive standards around something like mash ups? My search turned up this interesting article (http://blogs.gartner.com/anthony_bradley/2009/10/02/oma-and-the-importance-of-standards-in-enterprise-mashups/) from Gartner which talks about Jackbe and Open Mashup Alliance (OMA). What I thought was a key note in the article is that the heavy hitters like Oracle and Microsoft are not members. I think that this really hampers the forward progress of Enterprise Mashups becoming a standard. In any event there is one thing that is clear: Enterprise Mashups are not just going to fade away because they don’t yet have the backing of these big companies. I am just curious how many large enterprises are going to buy into it.
ReplyDeleteOne other thing that I saw that was interesting when looking up Enterprise Mashups is the delivery method that the blog (http://blogs.zdnet.com/Hinchcliffe/?p=63) discusses. It states that datamashups.com delivery is purely SaaS. I started thinking that if that is the case and a company is able to offer a mashup as a Software as a Service then that will directly tie into cloud computing. And if my company purchases the services of a company offering this type of mashup…would I really care how they do it on the back end (i.e. using a data mashup)? I don’t think so….so I thought this might be a ‘slick’ way of actually leveraging mashups without an customer even knowing what is running their enterprise from a software perspective.
There are any online stores available on Internet today which provides best deals in different products and services whether it is electronic goods or fast moving goods.

Glad I found this post. It’s really awesome.Enterprise mashup solutions provide users with the ability to mash data from a data warehouse/mart as easily as any other data source. ERP Demos give good understanding of various integration/touch points & any shortcomings in the system.
